Let me make this declaration. I am a FIRM believer that you do not decorate for one holiday before another has taken place. Firm. Believer. Thanksgiving and Christmas are two very different feelings to me, and I don’t need decor mixing ‘em up. However…
I couldn’t resist a jump up on just one. So I’ve seen others taking part in this project, but Eddie Ross’s was my dream wreath. The colors were perfect, and that bow sang to me. He used about 80 ornaments. I did not.
I hit up the dollar store and bought these tubes of ornaments for, well, $1.00. The pink ones I picked up for 1/2 off at Michaels. I had to have the pink. Oddly enough, I actually had to buy a package of wire hangers at the dollar store. I didn’t have a single one! Wire hangers and I don’t really get along.
Like Eddie says, unwrap the wire and form a circle out of the hanger. Then, just thread the ornaments on in assorted colors. I hot-glued the hook to half of them like he told me to. The other half, I didn’t. I regret that decision.
Of course, the only problem now is that I didn’t buy enough ornaments for two of them. Inside the den is where I keep the kids’ white tree, and I thought this would be a cute entrance. Looks like I’m back to the dollar store for more!
Until then, let’s just pretend.
Okay. That’s it. Back to Thanksgiving. No more talk of this stuff.

It looks fabulous. I'm waiting to make mine until next week. I think Thanksgiving needs to hurry up and get here already, don't you? 🙂

It's so pretty! I really love the colors you chose and it's OK that you didn't wait until after Thanksgiving. 🙂

I had my hand on some ornaments at my local Peddler's Mall today, and decided NOT to buy them. I didn't think it was enough ornaments to make this kind of wreath. They were true vintage ornaments. I am regretting that decision right now.
Can you tell me how many ornaments you used?
It turned out fantastic! I don't look forward to gluing on all the ringy things, but I guess I'll learn from your mistakes and do that step. 🙂
great job! thanks for sharing!

I love it, it is so cute. I'll have to add this one to my list of wreaths to try.
Jaime says
Absolutely adorable! I love it. I, too, would like to know roughly how many ornaments you need.

I too loved Eddie's wreath. I bought those same Dollar Store ornaments, except I used all the different silver ones instead of colors. This has been the hardest project I have ever done! I didn't hot glue the tops on them ahead of time because they seemed to be pretty sturdy. Then after I get a lot of them on the hanger, they start falling off and I have to hot glue them as I go. I actually had to start over and make it a second time. It is getting there, but I still am not totally satisfied. Yours is lovely!

I so know about decorating for holidays. As a child we put our tree up AFTER Thanksgiving dinner. So I have this hang up about starting before. Although I have my new pine cone tree in my living room! I am dying to put up my tree this year…because I have this idea. IF it works out like the vision in my head. LOL LOVE the wreath! It's so shiny. 😉
Lyn says
Really cute wreath!! I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to make one…or 2 😉
Jessica says
Love it! I'm going to attempt to make one. Gotta go plastic though because of the lil' ones!

Pretty! I was in Target the other day & the new thing must be ornament garland. I am going to save a little & make my own. Same idea just in a garland type arrangement.
Thanks for this idea too.

Sorry this has nothing to do with the wreath, although I do love it. Can you show us a picture of the table at the top of the stairs, what is the art you have on it?
Sarah says
LOVE IT! I'm so making this!
Jessica says
How adorable! I love it!!!
Debbie says
Okay I am a traditionalist about Christmas colors…so I was not impressed with the color selection at the dollar store.
But that is so cute…. but…maybe I have enough ornaments already that I would only have to get a few…guess it's off to the dollar store I go tomorrow!
Thanks I think I will totally copy this….just different colors.
Susan Crabtree says
so super cute-may have to try this!

Love the colours! So pretty!
As for the two holiday decorating, not a problem for me (I'm Canadian) and our Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October, October 12th this year. Goodbye Halloween, hello Christmas 😉 Well, actually I like a little break of no seasonal decorating for a bit first.
Michelle says
I saw this on Eddie Ross's website also and made mine a few weeks ago (I just couldn't wait!). I used about 60 ornaments, I'd say. I got mine at Ikea…they have a great bulk box of ornaments in red and silver. Yours is so pretty!
B Lines says
Ooh, I love it! And never really thought about making anything like it until now. I will have to search the collectibles and antique stores in the area for great ornaments. Thanks for sharing with us.
Katie Jones says
Wow- I love it! I've always wanted to make an ornament wreath but had no clue how to create a base … and it was a wire hanger the whole time!?!? Can't wait to try this idea!
Kathy @ Creative Home Expressions says
I never heard a thing! ; ) I also saved Eddie Ross' post on this to try. I had purchased some of those ornament sleeves from the dollar store and I'll need to get more and a few other sizes, too. Can't wait to try this!
Becky R. says
I made one of these too with dollar store ornaments and ended up regretting not gluing the ends on first too…you're not alone! It looks beautiful, by the way!
Carmen says
I cannot wait to make mine. I posted about this wreath idea a couple weeks ago. Yours is FABULOUS!!! Love it!
Astrid says
Gorgeous! I'm buying ornaments to make one or two wreaths as well. I didn't realize they used so many ornaments to make one. Better get more!
How did you hang the wreath to the door? I mean- how did you hang what looks like ribbon from the top of your door? Or is it a door hanger?
Melissa Stover says
love. love. love! i can do that.
Gina Sisco says
Your wreath turned out fabulous. I started making one the other day to quickly find out I didnt have enough ornaments!! I have half a wreath. Maybe next year I will finish the other half!

I am also a firm believer in not mixing holiday decor…but I'm so glad you posted this. AMAZING. I'm definitely making one! =]

Love it!!! We are taking a girls trip the first week in December, and were planning to make these wreaths (I had already bought the same ornaments, lol, but I got bright pink ones at Hobby Lobby and KMart instead of the pastel ones). I'm glad you showed how to make it though, because I wasn't sure. Thanks!!!
Rocio @ CasaHaus says
So cute!!!! I'm looking forward to doing a wreath, but I have so many favorites! I'm adding this one too!
Sunny Tuesday says
I love this idea! Seriously considering stopping off at the dollar store tomorrow!

I made that wreath this week, but I tell you that glitter is evil. I had it everywhere and know I was walking around with glitter on my face after several showers=)
Laurel @ Ducks in a Row says
Seriously – so fantastic. I love the pink, imagine that!
Mike and Wendy says
I've just took a break from working on mine. I was getting frustrated because the part of the ornament that you thread onto the hanger kept breaking. Did you have that problem with your Dollar Store ornaments? LMK if you have the time.

I LOVE Christmas and Thanksgiving. Because they are so close together, like Halloween and Thanksgiving, I tend to mix in a few "fall/winter" like decorations to ease into the new holiday and season. Love the wreath and the colors!

We did these on nannygoat too. Love that the dollar store has such great looking ornaments for…well, a DOLLAR! Yours turned out pretty.

Yes, indeed, back to the Dollar Store for more! This looks absolutely beautiful. I'm going to have to go looking for the instructions for this one. Thanks for sharing this.

So nice! I've had this project on my mind since I first saw it. You convinced me to stop thinking about it and just do it!
I am so with you on not decorating for Christmas until Thanksgiving is over! My brain just can't handle the confusion!

This is so cute! I think I'll make one for myself.

Wow — yours turned out so beautiful! I made one, but had a little trouble with spaces between some ornaments — any tips for me?

very cute. I'm thinking this would be a great project with the kids. It would be fun for the porch. I am with you on the holiday decorating, but finding it hard now that the saturday after thanksgiving is now the big football game day(used to be before). That was my all day decorating blitz. And I have one piece out now that I just bought…more wintery than christmas, but it's awesome.

Kristen says
Too fun – that will look great with your kids tree! Back to bed for me – I'm praying I make it for the midnight showing tonight. (Ok, praying is being a bit dramatic!) But I will be the girl in the back in her pj's and trying not to cough up a lung. I might pass out when I seen Jacob's muscles though. Be grateful you live far away, you know I'd be dragging your butt along with me.

Grand! The colors together look so nice.

Kim says
I am so excited that I have found your blog !!! I absolutely LOVE the ornament wreath ! I've been wanting one for the past couple of years but didn't want to buy one at full price (they never have any after Christmas on clearance). I can't wait to MAKE one now !!! Adorable !
Melanie says
This is great! I bought a bunch of balls a couple of years ago to do the project but never got around to doing it. You did a great job.
Jen @ Sunshine4Teachers says
Love this! I have doors just like this that I'd like to do wreaths for…BUT one of them doesn't open. Are yours like this? If so, how did you get that one to look like the ribbon was hung from the inside of the door? Inquiring minds want to know 🙂
Jen @ Sunshine4Teachers says
Especially loved the different colors.

OK, I tried the hangar, but call me blond, I couldn't get the ornaments to lay flat!
So, I made an all red version, over a 10" foam wreath.
Thanks for the tutorial, and the great pictures- check mine out if you get a chance:

Love this idea. I have made 6 so far! A gift for all my friends. Thanks for the tutorial.
Jen says
Ok, so I know I'm coming to this party a bit late, but I have a quick question: how did you attach the pink ribbon so cleanly to the ornament wreath? Did you hot glue it to the back, or is it threaded through the ornaments and around the wire? I appreciate your help, I'm making this wreath as a gift for my mother and just know she'll love it!
