FAQs

It can be a full-time job answering all the e-mails I get with questions about particular things. Unfortunately, I already have a full-time job. In an effort to answer your questions more efficiently and spare my sanity, I thought I’d answer the most frequently asked questions. I hope this helps!

All the paint colors that I know for this house can be found here.

What kind of camera do I use? I write adoringly about it here, here, and here. It’s a Canon T1i, and I can’t recommend it enough. Great investment.

What kind of paint did you use on your door (more here) and black furniture?

You can find more information on the buffet here and here.

It’s Benjamin Moore’s Metal and Wood paint. I don’t get it mixed. I simply get it in a black base paint. I’ve also been asked where I buy it. My town has a local paint store that sells Benjamin Moore paint exclusively. From what I understand, you cannot get it at a “big box” store. You can go here to find locations near you.

The old “Where did you find that” series. Here we go.

My daughter’s bed. After searching and searching, I found it here. I purchased it with the trundle, and it came with a free mattress. It’s worked out perfectly for her friends.

Tree mural

My daughter’s bedding.  (Sorry about the bad color in this one.) The pink quilt is Pottery Barn’s Eliza. It reverses to a cute white/pink print on the other side. The green one was at Marshall’s for $20.00.

That tree. Yup, I painted it. Nope, I can’t find the tree. I can’t apologize enough, but it is nowhere to be found. I have NO idea where I found it. I’m so bummed. However, I can show you how I did it. You’ll find the tutorial here.

Garage door address numbers. And what font are they?

I got them from Wonderfully Wordy. The font is just from my Word program. It’s Modern No. 20.

The glass/vinyl calendar in the mudroom.

I ordered it from Say it with Style off Etsy. I absolutely love it!

The “mirror” in the dining room.is actually a candle platter. The other pictures don’t do it justice, but it has a gorgeous pattern in it! I found it at Ikea for $15.00—on sale from $25.00.

The rug in my craft room. I found it here.  I ordered the 5×8.

What are all the measurements of the board and batten in your dining room?

Luckily (for me) I already typed up some posts that answer all the questions about that room. You can see them here and here.

As some regularly repeated e-mails come in, I’ll continue to add to this post! Thanks for asking!

Hi – I’d love to know what type of camera you use now – what you had before too! Thanks!

Sorry for the late answer, Kristen. Must have missed this. I have a Canon T1i, and I love it. My older camera was also a Canon. A Powershot 640, maybe? It died, and I don’t have it anymore. I can’t really blame it, though. My husband dropped it on cement. RIP, little Canon.

How do you keep your home so clutter free?? Where is all of your “stuff”? My home is getting cluttered because my mom passed a month ago and I’m bringing home too much stuff. Let me know your organizing secret. Thanks!

Well, if you could see it right now, Judy, you’d know that no home is clutter free–especially mine! I am lucky to have lots of storage space, but purging is the key! Easier said than done, I know.

Excellent, user-friendly, thoroughly tutorial-ed site!! You’ve set the bar for others pretty high and, hopefully, they’ll follow your example. Thanks.

Hi Chris-

Did I miss the post about the details of how you refinished your kids’ bathroom vanity? I love your style! I am in the midst of renovating our bathroom, and would like to repaint our 1991 vintage builder grade oak vanity. Thanks!

Any chance, in your leisure ;) time, might you tell me where you found your “costal bathroom” rugs? I’ve looked everywhere to no avail. Thanks for your consideration. Marcia

You bet, Marcia! Found them at World Market. I did a resource list in one of the bathroom posts. Thanks!

Hi! I absolutely love the china cabinet that you refinished for your daughter’s room! I have been wanting to go from the dark wood finish to a crisp white for my armoire & dresser. It seems so overwhelming! What did you use to strip the finish? Do you have a tutorial for refinishing the china cabinet? If so, I would LOVE it! Thanks for sharing your wonderful projects!

Where do you find your wooden pallets? Every where I go they won’t give them to me as they say they return them for $$$. Thanks.

Hello! I found your site through pinterest. I LOVED your info on the boart and batten and I sent the link to my mother in law. It worked for me when I sent it to her (yesterday afternoon) but today this is the message that comes up when I click on either link you have listed above

You 404’d it. Gnarly, dude.

Surfin’ ain’t easy, and right now, you’re lost at sea. But don’t worry; simply pick an option from the list below, and you’ll be back out riding the waves of the Internet in no time.

Hit the “back” button on your browser. It’s perfect for situations like this!
Head on over to the home page.
Punt.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. She REALLY wants to do this to a room in her home. Thank you!

I wish I could tell you, Darlene. I looked all over the house for information on the flooring, and I couldn’t find a thing. I’m sorry! Thank you for stopping by!

I’d love to know where you got the white shelf with dark pegs for the updated bathroom.

Reply

Chris March 31, 2012 at 9:21 pm

Hi, Karen. I actually made it myself. I used an old wall shelf and attached it to a plank of wood with screws and liquid nails. After attaching the black knobs from Hobby Lobby, we literally just screwed it to the wall. Hope that helps!

Hi.
I came across your before/after picture of clean grout on Pinterest.
It directed me to your blog. I searched your blog for two hours and unfortunately I am still unable to locate the directions. The original was on Pinterest. Will you please share?
My home has 800 sq ft of tile. I cleaned and sealed the tile in 2008. However, one day I was in a cleaning frenzy and used Mr Clean to mop the floors. This stripped everything and now I am left with dirty grout:(
Btw, I love your blog! Great info.
Thanks for your help,
AA

Chris,
Love the Costal Bathroom for kids! Do you find it hard to keep the black cabinets clean? (Finger Prints, Toothpaste:)

Reply

Chris April 1, 2012 at 11:17 pm

I thought it might be a problem, too, Cynthia. I am happy to report that there are NO issues whatsoever. I wipe down their drawers once a week, and that’s it! :)

Do you have an FAQs for your son’s bedding? Did you make the dust ruffle.

Reply

Chris April 27, 2012 at 7:37 pm

I need to do a FAQ for it, but I found it at Meijer (a local grocery store actually). It’s a Katie Brown dust ruffle. Good luck!
